After spending a lot of time on CVC words and blends, we’re finishing up our work with silent e words.
I’m not big on worksheets, so we didn’t start with them. We began with these fold and read cards. They’re super easy to print and prepare, and they’re a great learning tool for kids to see how short vowel words become new words when you add an e.
Another favoriteactivity is our four in a row games.

This follow the path game is another quick way to review short u and u-e words.
After he returned home from morning kindergarten, I showed my Five the stack of ten worksheets. I told him he could choose five to do. He started with the Read & Stamp page. He was so proud to see his finished work! (I’ve had these alphabet stamps since my teaching days… love ’em!)
Next, he chose the correct spelling of each short u or u-e word.
The Fill in the Word pages are his favorite.
Some of the pictures for u-e words are tough (such as dune, fuse, and mute), but learning them is a great vocabulary builder.
Finally, he loves to draw – so the Draw the Word page was his final choice.
We hope you and your learners enjoy these!

Thank you so much, Anna, for the invaluable resources for magic e. My students love the variety of the worksheets. Might you consider adding worksheets for e-e to round out the five vowels? We would greatly appreciate this.

We’re so glad your students are enjoying the resources, Anita! Thank you for your feedback, but because there is such a limited number of e-e words and they aren’t easily represented by pictures, we don’t have plans to add that vowel pattern.
